Marion Towns - Contemporary NZ visual artist

Marion was born in 1956 in Cambridge, New Zealand.  She was Educated at Papatoetoe High School and attended a Graphic Design Course at A.T.I. Auckland, New Zealand.

Marion started painting over 35 years ago. Her technical strength lies in pastels and she is constantly exploring new ways of using this medium. She has been exhibiting for over 26 years and has had 18 solo exhibitions, 5 joint shows and won 8 awards.

Out of 192 exhibitions she has been a finalist in 39. Two of her solo exhibitions were in America.  

Her works have been printed onto cards for Phillips NZ Ltd and the law firms of Ellis Gould and Chapman, Tripp Sheffield and Young.

Presently she has her own range of greeting and prints which are distributed nationally.

Her image "Above Man O War Bay" appears on a 1998 wine label produced by Camana Farm vineyards.

"Cactus Bay" has featured on  the 2001 School Shop Catalogue. 

"Gekkan 2001"  - A Japanese Tourist guide has used one of Marion's pastels on its June front cover.

In 2002  "Destination Gisborne" a Sunday Star Times supplement featured "Young Nicks Head" on its front cover.

In 2012 Marion was the 1st prizewinner overall for her painting”Wilson’s Bay” in the Southland “Positively Pastels” Exhibition.

In 1997 Marion was the sole NZ finalist to be selected from 10,000 entries for the 8th Biennial Printing & Drawing Exhibtion Taipei-Taiwan


Featured on the back cover of the July edition of the Readers Digest. Marion is currently working on commissions for National and International clients.
